Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe

The basilica features a rectangular layout with three naves, a high apse, and a bell tower extending upward from its limestone structure.

The church was consecrated in 549 CE under Archbishop Maximian and dedicated to Saint Apollinaris, the first bishop of Ravenna.

The interior walls display elaborate mosaics depicting Christ, evangelists, and biblical scenes, representing 6th-century Christian artistic techniques.

The basilica maintains regular visiting hours from Monday to Saturday 8:30-19:30 and Sunday 13:30-19:30, with wheelchair access throughout the building.

The apse contains a large circular medallion with Christ surrounded by symbols of the four evangelists: an eagle, an angel, a lion, and a bull.
