Originally from the temple of Amun in Karnak, the obelisk was first brought to Alexandria by Constantius II, and then to Rome in 357 to decorate the spina of the Circus Maximus.
The obelisk is a significant symbol of power and dominion that stands in the square outside the Lateran Palace.
You can visit the Lateran Obelisk in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano, Rome.
