Palazzo del Governo

Palazzo del Governo, Government palace in Taranto, Italy

Palazzo del Governo is an administrative palace in Taranto featuring six floors and a distinctive M-shaped layout built with brown stone cladding. Two large bells are positioned in the side towers, while bronze antennas crown the roof of the structure.

The building was designed by architect Armando Brasini and opened on September 7, 1934. The structure emerged as part of early twentieth century administrative development in the city.

The interior displays works by Grottagliese School artists and incorporates Roman-inspired design elements throughout the rooms. These artistic details shape the character visitors experience when moving through the building.

The building houses the Prefecture, Provincial Administration, and Police Department, with the main entrance located at Via Anfiteatro 4. It functions as a working administrative center within the city.

The structure follows an unusual M-shaped floor plan, setting it apart from typical square or rectangular administrative buildings of its time. This architectural choice was a bold decision for a government facility in that era.
