Tiarno di Sotto

Tiarno di Sotto is a small settlement in the Ledro Valley in northern Italy, situated at about 728 meters (2,390 feet) elevation. The area comprises several distinct neighborhoods that together form a rural community.

The settlement originated in the 10th century when local people began living in two different areas on separate hills. This split eventually led to the development of distinct communities in the valley.

The local church displays religious art from the Venetian tradition that shaped spiritual life in this valley. This reflects how faith remained central to the community's identity over centuries.

The settlement sits in a mountainous area north of Trento and can be explored on foot since the neighborhoods are relatively close together. The hilly terrain means some walking involves going uphill and downhill, so sturdy footwear is advisable.

Near the Massangla river stands a preserved mill from the 15th century that now functions as a museum. It demonstrates how grain was processed by hand in earlier times, keeping alive a craft method that few people know about today.
