Abbazia della Misericordia, Former religious complex in Cannaregio district, Venice, Italy.
The Santa Maria della Misericordia church exhibits Baroque architecture, featuring a facade designed by Clemente Moli with allegorical figures and ornate decorations.
Built in 936 as Santa Maria di Val Verde, the church underwent major reconstruction between 1651 and 1659, funded by Gasparo Moro whose bust adorns the entrance.
The church belonged to one of Venice's seven Scuole Grandi, institutions that combined religious devotion with charitable works for the local community.
The building stands along the Canale della Misericordia, with its last religious service held in 1967 before closing to regular worship activities.
During the 2017 Venice Biennale, the former church space was transformed into a temporary Sunni mosque as part of an art installation.
