Monte Penna, Mountain peak in Ligurian Apennines, Italy.

Monte Penna rises to 1,735 meters with a triangular profile and steep northern cliffs made of ophiolitic rock. Its gentler southern slopes sit within the Aveto Regional Park, creating a varied landscape.

The name comes from Penn, a Celtic god worshipped by the Ligures before Roman times arrived in this area. This ancient connection shows how long people have lived and moved through this region.

The mountain sits where Liguria and Emilia-Romagna meet, shaping how people on each side developed their own ways of life and work. Visitors walking here can feel how the landscape and local habits differ across this natural line.

Several hiking trails start from the Casermette del Penna parking area and lead to the summit with routes for different experience levels. Weather changes quickly at this height, so bring layers and be prepared for varying terrain.

Two major rivers, the Taro and the Ceno, start their flow from this mountain's slopes. These water sources nourish communities across northern Italy as the rivers travel downhill.
