Monte Penna

Monte Penna rises to 1,735 meters with a triangular profile, featuring steep northern cliffs of ophiolitic rock and gentler southern slopes within the Aveto Regional Park.

The mountain's name originates from Penn, an ancient Celtic deity worshipped by the Ligures who inhabited this region during pre-Roman times.

The mountain stands at the intersection of Liguria and Emilia-Romagna regions, creating a natural boundary that influenced local traditions and agricultural practices over centuries.

Multiple hiking trails lead to the summit from the Casermette del Penna parking area, with routes suitable for different experience levels from beginner to advanced.

Both the Taro and Ceno Rivers begin their journey from Monte Penna's slopes, providing water resources to communities across northern Italy.
