Su Romanzesu, Archaeological site in Bitti, Italy

Su Romanzesu is a Bronze Age settlement near Bitti featuring the remains of stone houses, shrines, and a sacred well spread across multiple hectares. The site includes several architectural forms, with temple buildings and an amphitheater-like structure arranged throughout the landscape.

The settlement emerged around the 14th century BC and remained inhabited until the 7th century BC, later seeing Roman presence. This long sequence shows how the location attracted different populations across many centuries.

The layout reveals how residents arranged their stone buildings to create shared gathering spaces for the community. This organization shows how religious practices and daily life were deeply woven together in this Bronze Age settlement.

The site has uneven ground and requires comfortable footwear as you walk among the scattered remains. A visit during warmer months makes navigation easier and more comfortable.

Archaeologist Antonio Taramelli brought the remains to light in 1921, revealing a hidden Bronze Age world in Sardinia. His excavations transformed a farmland area into one of the island's most important historical places.
