Casa del Volto Santo is a modernist church building on the Capodimonte hill featuring white walls and large windows throughout. The structure uses clean geometric forms and functional design to create bright, open interior spaces filled with natural light.
Construction began in 1990 under Cardinal Michele Giordano's direction, rebuilding after an earlier structure was destroyed in the 1980 earthquake. The new building marked a fresh start for the sanctuary on this site.
Flora De Santis established this sanctuary by converting her own home into a prayer space for the community. Visitors find a place where daily worship and private devotion to the Holy Face continue to be central to how the space is used.
The church is accessible via Via Ponti Rossi on the Capodimonte hill and offers regular services throughout the week. Visitors can attend prayer times in the main hall, though it is primarily a working sanctuary for the community.
The building embodies Neues Bauen principles with its geometric forms, clean lines, and functional design from post-war modernism. Its white walls and expansive windows were unconventional for a place of worship of that era, creating an unexpectedly open prayer environment.
