The Arch of Claudius measures 12 meters in height and incorporates precise Roman architectural elements with carved inscriptions depicting military victories.
The Roman Senate authorized the construction of this arch in 51 AD to mark Emperor Claudius's successful conquest of Britain in 43 AD.
The remaining fragments of inscriptions and sculptures at the Capitoline Museums detail the surrender of eleven British kings to Roman authority.
Visitors can find sections of the original structure and inscriptions in the Capitoline Museums, located in the center of Rome.
The arch integrated into the Aqua Virgo aqueduct where it crossed Via Flaminia, combining water infrastructure with commemorative architecture.
