Galleria Sciarra, Decorated covered passage in central Rome, Italy
The Galleria Sciarra features walls adorned with Art Nouveau frescoes depicting female figures representing virtues and scenes from 19th-century life.
In 1888, architect Giulio De Angelis transformed this courtyard into a covered passage connecting Via Marco Minghetti to the Palazzo Sciarra Colonna di Carbognano.
The passage walls display Giuseppe Cellini's frescoes using encausto technique, illustrating themes of female virtues including modesty, strength, patience, and prudence.
Located near Trevi Fountain, visitors can reach this gallery through an entrance on Via Marco Minghetti or Via delle Muratte during weekday business hours.
The decorative program includes portraits of writer Gabriele D'Annunzio and initials of Princess Carolina Barberini Colonna di Sciarra throughout the frescoes.
