Trevi Fountain, Baroque fountain in Trevi district, Rome, Italy
The Trevi Fountain features a central figure of Oceanus in a shell chariot pulled by sea horses, with water cascading over rocks into a large basin.
The fountain marks the endpoint of the ancient Aqua Virgo aqueduct, which supplied water to Rome since 19 BC under Marcus Agrippa's direction.
Each day, thousands of visitors participate in the tradition of throwing coins over their left shoulder into the water to ensure their return to Rome.
The fountain remains open throughout the day and night, with the nearest metro station being Barberini on the red line, about 8 minutes walking distance.
More than one million euros in coins are collected annually from the fountain's waters and donated to support charitable organizations in Rome.
