Oratorio del Santissimo Sacramento al Tritone, Baroque church building near Via del Tritone, Rome, Italy
The Oratorio del Santissimo Sacramento al Tritone is a baroque church building with a single-nave interior in Rome. The walls display 19th-century frescoes painted by Luigi Martinori between 1865 and 1867.
The oratory was originally built between 1576 and 1596 for the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament. It underwent complete reconstruction in 1727, receiving its present baroque form at that time.
The high altar features a painting of the Holy Family by Francesco Trevisani, reflecting 18th-century religious artistic traditions. This work exemplifies how baroque churches in Rome displayed sacred imagery to guide devotion.
The building is located at Piazza Poli 11 and is maintained by the Arciconfraternita del Santissimo Sacramento. Visitors should check ahead about access times, as regular religious services are held.
When Via del Tritone was built in the 19th century, adjacent buildings had to be demolished, significantly altering the original architectural setting of the complex. This urban transformation changed how the oratory relates to the surrounding city.
