Radlseehütte, building in Feldthurns, Italy
Radlseehütte is a simple mountain hut located near Radlsee lake above 2,284 meters (7,494 feet) in South Tyrol. The building has rustic rooms, a large dining room, an outdoor terrace, and basic facilities including clean bathrooms and hot showers.
The area around Radlseehütte has a long history of mountain use by communities in the region. The tradition of grazing animals on the slopes and maintaining hiking trails goes back many decades and shapes the landscape as it appears today.
The hut serves as a meeting point for hikers and paragliders from across the region who share the mountains and lakeside. Visitors gather to eat together, especially during the annual Radlsee-Kirtag festival in September, when music and local food bring locals and travelers together.
Access is via several hiking trails from different starting points like Kühhof, Latzfons, or Oberschnauders, each taking between two and three hours. Visitors should bring proper footwear, plenty of water, and weather-appropriate clothing, and check conditions before heading out.
The hut is known for Knödeltag or Dumpling Day, when the kitchen prepares around a dozen varieties of traditional dumplings. This special offering shows how local Tyrolean culture remains alive in the mountain dining room today.
