Abbey of Valserena

The Abbey of Valserena is a monastery with Gothic and Baroque features in Parma, containing three naves that end in a square choir. The interior is supported by columns of different styles that hold up a cross vault.

The abbey was founded in 1298 and originally housed monks from another monastery. Over the centuries, its purpose and inhabitants changed several times.

The interior displays decorations from the 1500s created by artists connected to the Farnese court. These artworks shape how the space looks when you walk through it.
