Hundred Horse Chestnut, Natural monument in Sant'Alfio, Italy.

The ancient chestnut tree grows on Mount Etna's eastern slope at 705 meters elevation, extending 22 meters high with multiple trunks from one root system.

The Court of the Royal Heritage of Sicily established official protection for this chestnut tree in 1745, marking an early environmental conservation effort in the region.

The tree bears its name from a legend where Queen Joanna of Aragon and her hundred knights found protection beneath its branches during a thunderstorm.

Visitors can reach the tree by following Linguaglossa road, located approximately 8 kilometers from Mount Etna's crater in the province of Catania.

Scientific measurements from 1780 recorded the tree's circumference at 57.9 meters, establishing it as the chestnut tree with the largest girth in world records.
