Sant'Alvise, Gothic church in Cannaregio, Italy

The brick building features a single nave structure with a large entrance doorway made of Istria stone and a Gothic bell tower from the 13th century.

Antonia Venier ordered the construction of Sant'Alvise church in 1338, following her vision of Saint Louis of Toulouse, known locally as Saint Alvise.

Three paintings by Giambattista Tiepolo from 1737-1740 decorate the interior, depicting the Crown of Thorns, Flagellation, and Mount Calvary Ascension.

The church maintains regular visiting hours and stands near the Madonna dell'Orto church in the northern section of Venice.

The suspended choir, called Barco, rests on two columns with iron grates that permitted nuns to observe religious services without being seen.
