Sirenuse, Island group in Positano, Italy

Sirenuse is an island group off the coast of Positano consisting of three separate islands, each with a distinctive shape. They sit relatively close to shore and are clearly visible from boats when exploring the area.

These islands were mentioned in ancient texts and formed the backdrop for stories dating back to classical times. Over recent centuries, they changed ownership several times before eventually becoming private property, as they remain today.

These islands hold a place in local storytelling as a destination that attracted creative figures and artists throughout modern history. Visitors notice how they remain associated with artistic inspiration and mystery, even though today they can only be viewed from afar.

The islands are best viewed from a boat as you approach the shore or take a tour that sails nearby. Keep in mind that landing or setting foot on them is not possible, so observation from a distance is the only experience available.

In ancient mythology, female beings lived here who lured sailors with their songs, but early descriptions portrayed them as bird-like creatures. This bird-like depiction stands in sharp contrast to the fish-tailed mermaids that later appeared in fairy tales.
