Rome Observatory, Astronomical observatory in Monte Porzio Catone, Italy
The Astronomical Observatory of Rome operates from a three-story complex with a guesthouse and multiple research facilities at Monte Porzio Catone.
The observatory opened in 1938 at Villa Mellini on Monte Mario hill before relocating to Monte Porzio Catone after World War II.
The observatory maintains the Astronomical Copernican Museum, displaying scientific instruments from the 14th century and 4,000 historical astronomical volumes.
Researchers at the observatory conduct studies in stellar physics, extragalactic astronomy, solar physics, and cosmology through international collaborations.
The library contains five incunabula and first editions of works by Copernicus, Ptolemy, and Galileo among its 8,000 astronomical manuscripts.
