The mining complex operated until 1965, extracting pyrite and other minerals that supported industrial development throughout Italy during the 20th century.
The museum preserves mining equipment, tools, and photographs, documenting the daily work experiences of generations of local miners in Tuscany.
Guided tours of both the mining museum and Ravi Marchi Mine require advance reservations through the tourist information point at Piazzale Livello.
The former explosives storage building now houses multimedia exhibits explaining the mineral extraction processes and environmental transformation of the area.
