Villa Garzoni

Villa Garzoni is a large estate house with an attached museum set within expansive grounds near Collodi. The property spreads across multiple levels with terraces, grand staircases, and water basins surrounded by geometrically shaped yew hedges and formal plantings.

The Garzoni family began building this estate around 1600, and major architects later redesigned it during the 18th century. This development reflected the growing importance of the property as a seat of power during that era.

The gardens show influences from European landscaping traditions with Italian and French design elements working together. Visitors notice carefully trimmed shrubs and formal water features throughout, shaping how the place appears and feels.

The grounds have multiple levels with stairs and elevation changes throughout. Pathways through the gardens and museum are accessible, though exploring all areas requires some physical fitness and willingness to climb.

The original hydraulic system from the 18th century still works today, powering fountains and water features throughout the grounds. This functioning system is a rare example of how baroque water engineering has survived to the present day.
