Forte Albertino

Forte Albertino is a military fortress built into the mountainside with interconnected underground passages and chambers arranged across multiple levels. The structure contains extensive corridors designed to facilitate military operations and troop movement throughout the complex.

The fortress was built in the early 1800s as a military stronghold for Alpine defense and took several years to complete. Its construction reflected strategic military planning for the mountain border region of that era.

The fortress displays how Alpine communities evolved through exhibitions and multimedia presentations that show daily life and adaptation in the mountains. Visitors can observe how mountain living changed through different periods.

Access to the fortress is through guided tours that lead you through the different sections and tunnels. Plan enough time to explore the passageways and bring appropriate clothing for the underground environment.

The site sustained bomb damage during wartime and was converted into a museum, making its military past accessible to visitors. This transformation turned a damaged facility into a place where people can learn about its original military purpose.
