Monte Matto, Alpine summit in Maritime Alps, Italy
Monte Matto is a three-peaked mountain in the Maritime Alps with its highest point at 3,097 meters at the central summit. The east peak reaches 3,088 meters and Cima Bobba stands at 3,079 meters, forming a distinctive mountain structure visible from afar.
The first documented climb took place in 1830 when Captain La Rocca reached the summit, sparking mountaineering interest in this peak. Since then it has become a recognized destination for alpine enthusiasts in the Maritime Alps.
The mountain stands within Argentera - Maritime Alps Natural Park, which received the European Diploma for the Environment recognition in 1993.
Access starts from Sant'Anna di Valdieri with a path through the Meris valley leading to Rifugio Dante Livio Bianco at 1,910 meters (6,266 feet). From there the route continues to the summit, allowing visitors to pace their approach based on fitness levels.
The mountain displays a distinctive tooth-shaped formation on its central peak that can be recognized from the plains near Cuneo. This characteristic feature makes it a striking landmark in the surrounding landscape.
