Cime de Frémamorte

Cime de Frémamorte is a mountain summit in the Maritime Alps that forms the border between the French Alpes-Maritimes and the Italian Province of Cuneo. The peak rises to about 2.700 meters and creates a natural dividing line along the ridge.

The name comes from a local story about a noblewoman from Valdeblore who died while attempting to cross into Italy during medieval times. This tale has shaped how locals remember the mountain pass through the centuries.

The mountain stands between Mercantour National Park and Maritime Alps Natural Park, representing centuries of shared Franco-Italian mountain heritage and traditions.

Hikers can access the summit through trails starting from the Frémamorte Pass area, reachable from both the French and Italian sides of the Maritime Alps. Routes vary in difficulty depending on which side you approach from.

Gneiss rock formations visible on the mountain reveal the deep tectonic processes that shaped the Alps. These geological layers tell the story of mountain building that took place over millions of years.
