Parco naturale delle Alpi Marittime, Regional park in Province of Cuneo, Italy.
The Parco naturale delle Alpi Marittime is a protected regional park set in the Maritime Alps with diverse mountain terrain. The landscape includes several valleys, numerous alpine lakes, and many peaks reaching above 3000 meters (10,000 feet), connected by an extensive network of hiking paths.
The park was created in 1995 by combining two separate nature reserves into one larger protected area. This merger strengthened conservation efforts for the mountain landscape and wildlife in the region.
The valleys here link Italian and French traditions through mountain routes that people have used for centuries to trade and travel. You can see this cross-border heritage reflected in the local villages and the way communities have adapted to mountain life.
Several entry points around the park provide access to different trail systems and valleys for various experience levels. Shuttle services run during the summer months to help visitors move between major areas and trailheads more easily.
A research center within the park focuses on studying wolf populations and contributes to scientific knowledge about these animals. This work has made visitors more curious about the role wolves play in this mountain ecosystem.
