Lago di Corbara, Reservoir near Orvieto, Italy
Lake Corbara extends across 10.5 square kilometers within a deep natural gorge, reaching depths of 51 meters in the Umbria region.
The construction of Corbara Dam started in 1959 and finished in 1963, creating this artificial lake on the Tiber River for hydroelectric purposes.
The lake area maintains protected status within the Tiber River Park, supporting local wine production under the Lago di Corbara DOC designation.
Visitors access the reservoir via State Road 448 on the left bank, where numerous accommodations and sports facilities are available.
The Forello Gorge section of the lake contains karst formations and notable caves, including the documented Grotta Bella cave system.
