Lago di Corbara

Lago di Corbara is a reservoir created by damming the Tiber River near Orvieto in Umbria. The water fills a deep gorge with steep banks and extends across a wide surface surrounded by rocky terrain.

The dam was built between 1959 and 1963 to harness the Tiber River for power generation. This project transformed the landscape by creating an artificial lake in the valley.

The lake sits within protected parkland and plays a role in local wine production. The area represents an important resource for communities in the region.

Access to the lake is via State Road 448 on the left bank, where you will find several facilities. Along the shore there are accommodations, food options, and places to swim or rent boats.

The Forello Gorge section contains limestone cave systems formed by natural erosion, including a notable cave network. These geological features add an unexpected underground dimension to the landscape.
