Synagogue of Cuneo, Baroque synagogue in Cuneo, Italy
The Synagogue of Cuneo is a baroque prayer hall in the city of Cuneo with grey walls and gold-colored accents throughout. The main prayer room features Hebrew inscriptions carved into the detailed cornicing that runs along the upper walls.
The building was constructed in 1611 and stands as the oldest among sixteen surviving synagogues in the Piedmont region. It has endured through centuries of regional change and remains central to the area's religious heritage.
The prayer room features a traditional layout with three sections of parallel seating all oriented toward the elevated platform holding the Torah ark and reading desk. This arrangement reflects religious practices that have been followed in this space for many centuries.
The building is located in the old town area and is only accessible through organized visits. The Jewish Community of Turin can arrange tours and provide additional information about the space.
A cannonball from the 1799 siege is still embedded in the wall and serves as a reminder of the building's dramatic past. The community commemorates this event each year during a special celebration.
