Chiesa di Santa Croce, Baroque church in Cuneo, Italy.
The chiesa di Santa Croce is a baroque church in Cuneo featuring two interconnected elliptical spaces with a concave facade. The structure creates a small plaza along Via Fratelli Vaschetto and showcases the geometric complexity typical of baroque design.
Construction began in 1709 under architect Antonio Bertola, with Francesco Gallo overseeing the work until completion in 1715. The church emerged during a period when baroque architecture was flourishing in the region and combined innovative design with religious purpose.
The interior displays fourteen paintings depicting the Triumphs of the Cross, along with images of the four Doctors of the Church. These works shape how visitors experience the baroque space and reveal the religious themes that guided its creation.
The building sits along a street with good visibility from outside and offers straightforward access to the interior for visitors. The surrounding area allows you to appreciate the concave facade fully and explore the adjoining plaza.
The dome contains large lunette frescoes representing Faith, Hope, Charity, and Humility, along with smaller paintings showing scenes from Christ's Passion. These frescoes are often overlooked by visitors who fail to look upward and notice the detailed work above.
