Palazzo Gritti, also called Gritti Dandolo, stands in Cannaregio on the Grand Canal between Palazzo Memmo Martinengo Mandelli and Palazzo Correr Contarini Zorzi. Its medieval Venetian Gothic form was heavily renovated in the 17th century, altering the window layout but not the size. The three-level facade has a round-headed portal opening directly onto the canal; the two noble floors each centre on a pentafora flanked by pairs of single-lancet windows, all with stone balustrades. A smaller 16th-century building, rebuilt in the 19th century, adjoins it on the right, with a column-supported portico and two bas-reliefs showing the Gritti and Dandolo coats of arms.

Palazzo Gritti is of medieval origin and originally showed the classic lines of Venetian Gothic architecture. In the 17th century it underwent a heavy renovation that radically altered its fenestration but not its dimensions. The smaller building to its right, originally 16th-century, was rebuilt in the 19th century.

The name links two Venetian patrician families: the Gritti, who gave the palace its name, and the Dandolo, later owners. Their coats of arms are carved in two bas-reliefs on the façade of the smaller adjoining building, which visitors can pick out from the canal or the opposite bank.

The palace faces the Grand Canal between Palazzo Memmo Martinengo Mandelli and Palazzo Correr Contarini Zorzi, so it is seen from the water or from the opposite bank. The ground-floor round-headed portal opens straight onto the canal. The smaller 19th-century building of the complex stands to the right, with a portico on small columns.

The smaller three-storey building to the right of the main block carries two bas-reliefs on its facade showing the coats of arms of the Gritti and Dandolo families, the successive noble owners. Its ground-floor portico rests on small columns; the structure is 16th-century in origin but was rebuilt in the 19th century.
