Torre dei Pulci, Medieval tower in Florence, Italy.
Torre dei Pulci is a tall stone tower standing beside the Uffizi Gallery, displaying typical features of medieval Florentine architecture. The facade shows characteristic medieval details and stands in the midst of the historic old town center.
The tower was built in the Middle Ages as a defensive structure and later became a residence for the influential Pulci family in Florence. Over time it changed its purpose and eventually became a center for scientific activities.
The tower has housed the Accademia dei Georgofili since 1933, an institution dedicated to agricultural science and botanical research. The academy uses the space for lectures, exhibitions, and knowledge sharing about farming and natural sciences.
The tower is located on Via Lambertesca, easily reached on foot from Ponte Vecchio and other central Florence attractions. The location fits well into the historic quarter and can be visited without difficulty while exploring the old town.
After a bombing in 1993, the tower was rebuilt with different materials visible in the restored sections. An olive tree was planted as a memorial to the victims and symbol of renewal.
