Abbazia di Santa Maria di Sitria

The abbey sits in Monte Cucco natural park, featuring a single nave church with a barrel vault and an elevated presbytery ending in a semicircular apse.

San Romualdo established the monastery in 1014, constructing it upon a previously existing hermitage where he spent his final days in meditation.

The crypt contains a remarkable stone altar from the 13th century, supported by fourteen slim columns connected through decorative stone arches.
