Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Modern art museum and archive in Udine, Italy

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is housed in a restored 16th-century building in central Udine, displaying art across multiple floors within Casa Cavazzini. The collection spans Italian artwork from the 1920s onward, including pieces by European and American artists acquired through major donations.

Casa Cavazzini is a 16th-century building that until 1990 housed Dante Cavazzini's textile shop on the ground floor and his apartment above. In the 1930s, on architect Ermes Midena's advice, Cavazzini had Afro and Mirko Basaldella and Corrado Cagli fresco the walls. His widow Aminta Flebus donated the building to Udine, and restoration, begun under Gae Aulenti, revealed 14th-century frescoes and a 16th-century cistern.

The museum's name comes from Dante Cavazzini, a Udine textile merchant whose widow Aminta Flebus donated the 16th-century building to the city. Until 1990 the ground floor held the Cavazzini linen and fabric shop, with the family apartment above. In the 1930s, on architect Ermes Midena's advice, Cavazzini had Afro and Mirko Basaldella and Corrado Cagli fresco the walls.

The museum sits in Udine's city center and is easily accessible on foot from major streets and public squares. Visiting during quieter hours allows more space to view the collections and appreciate both the artwork and the historic interior design of the building.

Restoration work at Casa Cavazzini uncovered a 16th-century Venetian-style cistern and a deposit of protohistoric pottery from the second half of the 8th century BC, the oldest find documented at the site. These remains are visible to visitors through glass panels.
