Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is housed in a restored 16th-century building in central Udine, displaying art across multiple floors within Casa Cavazzini. The collection spans Italian artwork from the 1920s onward, including pieces by European and American artists acquired through major donations.

The building was constructed in the 16th century as a private residence before Dante Cavazzini purchased it in 1937 for his art collection. Renovation work revealed frescoes from the 14th century beneath later wall layers, connecting the structure to much earlier artistic traditions.

The museum functions as a living art collection within a family home, showing how private passion for art shaped the building's identity and daily use. Visitors walk through rooms that were designed for both domestic life and artistic display.

The museum sits in Udine's city center and is easily accessible on foot from major streets and public squares. Visiting during quieter hours allows more space to view the collections and appreciate both the artwork and the historic interior design of the building.

The building preserves a 1930s apartment with original furnishings and wall paintings created by artist Afro Basaldella, offering a rare glimpse into how a collector lived among the artworks. These intimate rooms demonstrate the personal relationship between the family and their curated environment.
