Loggia del Lionello, Gothic loggia in Piazza Libertà, Udine, Italy.
Loggia del Lionello is a Gothic arcade hall on Piazza Libertà in Udine featuring ten ground-floor arches and ornate pointed windows on the upper level. The facade displays alternating bands of white and pink stone with detailed stone reliefs, especially on the north side with its five-part windows.
Construction started in 1441 following a proposal by nobleman Nicolò Savorgnan, marking an important civic project of that period. The building was partially damaged in an earthquake in 1516 and subsequently reconstructed, which is the form it maintains today.
The loggia serves as a gathering space with its distinctive stone facade in white and pink tones that helps define the city center. Visitors can observe the religious reliefs decorating the windows, showing the craftsmanship of the period.
The building connects directly to the adjoining Municipal Office Palace and forms part of the unified architecture of the square. Public access to the arcades allows visitors to view the facade details closely from ground level.
A Madonna statue in the right corner holds a model of the original fortress, showing how the castle looked before it was destroyed. This detail preserves memory of the city before the earthquake that destroyed the original stronghold.
