Biblioteca civica Gambalunga, Municipal library in central Rimini, Italy.
The Biblioteca civica Gambalunga occupies a Renaissance palace with a collection of 300,000 books, manuscripts, and historical documents from different periods.
Local lawyer Alessandro Gambalunga established this library in 1619, making it the first civic library in Italy open to the general public.
The library preserves an 11th-century Evangelarium and numerous works documenting the history of Rimini, including the city's first gazette from 1660.
Located at Via Gambalunga 27, the library opens Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 7 PM and Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM.
The Palazzo Gambalunga remained intact during World War II while most of Rimini's center suffered extensive damage.
