Biotopo Fiavé, Protected natural area in Fiavé, Italy
The Biotopo Fiavé extends over 137 hectares at the foot of Mount Cogorna and Mount Misone in the Trentino region of northern Italy.
The area originated from a 20-meter deep lake formed by morainic barriers 14,000 years ago, which gradually transformed into a marsh and peat bog.
Archaeological investigations in the protected area have uncovered prehistoric settlements, leading to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011.
The nature reserve features educational trails and observation points that allow visitors to learn about the local ecosystem while maintaining environmental protection.
The peat bog houses rare plant species and serves as a nesting ground for water birds, including mallards and moorhens.
