Biotopo Fiavé, Protected natural area in Fiavé, Italy

Biotopo Fiavé is a protected nature reserve in the Trentino region of northern Italy, stretching across wetland and peat bog terrain at the base of Mount Cogorna and Mount Misone. The site offers walking trails and observation points where visitors can explore the local ecosystems while the landscape itself reveals its structure of marshes and boggy ground.

The area formed roughly 14,000 years ago when glacial melt created a lake that gradually transformed into a marsh and peat bog over millennia. Archaeological discoveries of prehistoric settlements here led to UNESCO World Heritage recognition in 2011.

The name reflects its location in the Fiavé municipality, and visitors can walk through wetland areas that locals view as crucial for preserving rare habitats and natural ecosystems. This place holds significance as a space where nature and human understanding of conservation meet.

The reserve features marked walking trails and observation points spread throughout the wetland area for safe exploration. Wear appropriate footwear since the ground is soft and waterlogged, especially during wetter seasons when conditions can become muddy and slippery.

The peat layer here reaches several meters deep and naturally preserves organic materials from thousands of years, making it exceptionally valuable to archaeologists. This natural preservation has allowed ancient settlement remains to survive in remarkable condition.
