Castello di Frascarolo

Castello di Frascarolo is a castle in Induno Olona featuring an original western tower and a formal Italian garden with terraced levels. The garden displays decorated fountains arranged across its multiple zones.

The castle originated in the 12th century as a fortification under Archbishop Oberto da Pirovano of Milan. By the 16th century the Medici family acquired it and undertook significant renovations.

The Medici family transformed this fortification into a residence and added architectural details inspired by Giulio Romano's style. This conversion reflects how military structures became elegant homes during the Renaissance period.

The castle is privately owned and visits require prior permission. Contact the current owners before planning a visit to confirm access and viewing arrangements.

Composer Gaetano Donizetti visited in 1837 and left traces of his artistic stay at the location. Later the writer Gian Battista Bazzoni also came here seeking inspiration for his own work.
