Grazzano Visconti Castle, Medieval fortress in Vigolzone, Italy
Grazzano Visconti Castle is a fortress with multiple towers, defensive walls, and decorative elements located near Vigolzone. The structure combines medieval military design with neo-gothic features added over the centuries.
Giovanni Anguissola built the fortress in 1395 after marrying Beatrice Visconti, sister of the Duke of Milan. The family maintained control of the property through the following centuries, giving the castle an enduring presence in the region.
The castle hosts regular historical reenactments showcasing medieval combat, traditional crafts, and period music throughout the year. These events let visitors experience what life looked like during the Middle Ages.
The castle can be explored from Tuesday to Sunday, with guided tours available in multiple languages and access to the gardens and grounds. Comfortable shoes are recommended since exploring the towers and grounds involves considerable walking.
The castle has remained under the same family ownership since 1883, making it one of the few places in the region with unbroken continuity of ownership. This continuous stewardship has helped preserve the building's personal character and living history.
