Castello di Legri

Castello di Legri is a medieval fortress in Calenzano, situated on elevated terrain overlooking the Marinella valley. The structure features a central tower and defensive walls that form an enclosed complex, preserving the layout of an authentic fortified stronghold.

This fortress was founded in the 12th century as a strategic outpost to monitor the communication route between Calenzano and the Mugello hills. Later transformation in the 14th century shifted its purpose toward agricultural and residential use.

The private chapel inside reflects the spiritual life of past inhabitants, while the Baroque garden shows how the fortress evolved into a residential home. Walking through these spaces reveals the shift from military use to domestic living.

Access to the fortress requires advance planning, as the property now operates primarily as an event venue. Visitors should arrange their visit beforehand to ensure the site is available for touring.

The castle preserves both its original medieval tower and a later-added manor house, each crowned with battlements from their respective construction periods. This combination displays two architectural eras within a single complex.
