Castello di Lusuolo, Medieval castle in Mulazzo, Italy

The stone fortress stands on a hill overlooking the Magra River, featuring defensive walls and multiple towers that form a strategic military complex.

The Malaspina family controlled the castle from the 12th century until 1575, when Ercole Malaspina transferred ownership to Francesco I de Medici of Tuscany.

The Museum of Tuscan Emigration, established in 2004 within the castle walls, documents the migration patterns and stories of Tuscan people across centuries.

Guided tours lasting 45 minutes operate throughout the year, with adult tickets priced at 6 euros and reduced rates of 3 euros for students and groups.

The castle maintained control over an ancient ford of the Magra River and the Via Francigena, making it a crucial checkpoint for medieval travelers.
