Pascoli House-Museum, House museum in Castelvecchio Pascoli, Italy.
The Pascoli House-Museum is the former home of poet Giovanni Pascoli in Castelvecchio di Barga, in Tuscany. The three-story building holds the original furnishings, a large personal library, and several writing areas where he carried out his literary work.
Giovanni Pascoli moved into the house in the early 1890s and lived there for several decades until his death. His sister Maria kept every room unchanged after he died, and the house became a museum in the 1950s.
The study displays handwritten manuscripts and personal letters that show how the poet worked day to day. The books and objects arranged around the rooms give a direct sense of how he read, wrote, and spent his time.
The museum opens several days a week and is easy to explore on foot, as the rooms are modest in size. Taking time in the library and writing areas helps to get a fuller picture of how the poet spent his days.
Next to the house stands a small chapel that serves as the burial place for both the poet and his sister. The tomb was designed by a noted sculptor and adds a contemplative end to the visit.
