Castello di Monasterolo, Medieval castle in Monasterolo del Castello, Italy
The stone castle stands on a hill near Lake Endine, featuring Gothic architecture, defensive walls, and an oratory dedicated to Saint Anne.
Built between 1000 and 1200 CE on the remains of a Benedictine monastery, the castle served as part of a defense system with Bianzano and Mologno.
The castle transformed from a military fortress to a noble residence in the 1500s, maintaining its medieval characteristics through centuries of changes.
Visitors can schedule tours daily between 15:00 and 19:00 except Tuesdays, with adult admission priced at 3 euros and free entry for children.
English Countess Winifred Terni de Gregorj Taylor restored the castle between 1937 and 1945, preserving its architecture and creating a garden with 700 trees.
