Castello Suardi, Medieval castle in Bianzano, Italy.
Castello Suardi is a fortification with a square layout, double walls, and two defensive towers built in stone with carefully cut ashlar work at its base. The structure retains its medieval architectural form and defensive features in their original arrangement.
The castle was built between the 13th and 14th centuries as a strategic post along a major trade route connecting the Italian plains to Central Europe. This location made it an important fortification for controlling and protecting commercial traffic across the region.
The entrance hall displays frescoes from the Lombard school showing playful putti and four cardinal virtues. These decorations reflect the artistic taste of the Suardi family who lived and ruled from this place.
Visits are possible through guided tours arranged by the Bianzano Town Council or the Pro Bianzano Cultural and Tourist Association. It is recommended to contact one of these organizations in advance to arrange a tour.
Every two years in August, a historical celebration is held here commemorating the marriage of Giovanni Suardi and Bernarda Visconti in 1367. This event brings to life an important moment from the family who inhabited and shaped the castle over centuries.
