Castello di Montalto Dora

The castle stands on a hill overlooking Lake Pistono, featuring a substantial central tower and a chapel with fifteenth-century frescoes.

First documented in 1140 as Castrum Monsalti, the fortress changed ownership from the Bishop of Ivrea to the House of Savoy in the fourteenth century.

The architectural design of this castle influenced the creation of the Medieval Borough in Turin by architects Carlo Nigra and Alfredo d'Andrade.

The castle maintains its original defensive structures, including the main tower, walls, and various buildings within the fortified perimeter.

Engineers conducted extensive renovations in the early 1900s, preserving medieval construction techniques while adapting the structure for modern use.
