Semenza hydroelectric power plant

The Semenza hydroelectric power plant is a water-powered facility on the Adda River at Calusco d'Adda that generates electricity through the river's natural flow. The structure operates advanced turbine systems and was constructed using local materials in a distinctive architectural style.

The plant was built in 1920 as part of Edison's expansion strategy and joined existing facilities along the river. This installation was part of a wave of hydroelectric development that established the region as a center for electricity generation.

The power station displays Art Nouveau elements and neo-Gothic details constructed from local ceppo d'Adda stone. These architectural features make the building a reflection of how industrial design once blended utility with visual appeal.

The site sits right on the Adda River and is easily visible from surrounding roads, though interior access may be limited. It is best appreciated from the outside, where you can view its architectural details from the riverside path or nearby street.

The facility is part of a group of three historic power plants on the Adda that collectively operated without interruption for over 100 years. This extended service life makes them examples of durability and reliability in energy infrastructure.
