Breno Castle, Medieval castle on hilltop in Breno, Italy

The stone fortress spans across 0.525 hectares of land, rising 120 meters above the town with battlemented walls and two defensive towers.

The castle site reveals continuous occupation from Neolithic times, with archaeological evidence including a 5-meter wide trapezoidal house beneath the tower.

The remains of Saint Michele church within the castle walls represent architectural elements from both Longobard and Romanesque construction periods.

Visitors can reach the castle through a 15-minute uphill walk from Breno's center, following paths that lead to the entrance gates.

Archaeological excavations at the castle uncovered tools, vases, and two ancient tombs that demonstrate settlement patterns in Val Camonica valley.
