San Maurizio, Baroque church in central Mantua, Italy
The San Maurizio church features a domed structure with classical architectural elements and multiple chapels containing religious artworks from different periods.
Constructed in 1616 as part of a Theatine convent, the church received its current facade in 1731 and underwent numerous modifications during the Napoleonic period.
The church contains notable artworks including the Martyrdom of St Margaret by Ludovico Carracci and seven large religious canvases by Flemish artist Jacob Denys.
Located at Via Giovanni Chiassi 35, the church opens for worship services and art viewing on specific days throughout the year.
The first chapel on the left houses the tomb of Giovanni dalle Bande Nere, while the tomb of renowned artist Giulio Romano was present before past reconstructions.
