The Gonzaga Cameo, a classical carved gem, was the centrepiece of the 2008–2009 exhibition Il Cammeo Gonzaga at the Orangerie in Palazzo Te. The family also kept mirabilia, natural specimens such as a taxidermied hippopotamus later transferred in 1783 to the natural history museum of the University of Pavia, where it remains.
