Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore a Val Melaina, Modern church in Val Melaina district, Rome, Italy.
The Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in Val Melaina is a modern place of worship in Rome featuring a distinctive facade of alternating travertine and peperino stone pillars. The geometric structure comprises three clearly defined sections that give the building its pronounced appearance.
Architects Ennio Canino and Viviana Rizzi designed the building, with construction starting in 1975 and finishing with its dedication in 1977. The project arose to serve the growing spiritual needs of the developing neighborhood.
The interior holds two side chapels serving different purposes: one for Eucharistic adoration and another for confession. This layout reflects the spiritual needs of the local community.
The church is located at Via Monte Ruggero 63 in the Monte Sacro area and is easily reached by public transport from Jonio station. The neighborhood is flat and walkable, making visits convenient at any time of day.
In 1994, the church received titular status and was assigned to a cardinal, making it one of the city's cardinal churches. This honor was notable for a modern building constructed just decades earlier.
