Castello di Poppiano, Medieval castle in Montespertoli, Italy.

The L-shaped castle sits on an elevated position with triple boundary walls and a tower at the intersection of its main buildings.

The castle, first documented in 1199, belonged to the Guicciardini family who maintained ownership through nine centuries of Tuscan history.

Francesco Guicciardini, a distinguished member of the family, wrote his influential work 'Historia d'Italia' within these castle walls.

Visitors can access the castle through a stone staircase on the southern side and explore the grounds surrounded by extensive vineyards.

An earthquake between 1811 and 1815 led to significant reconstruction, resulting in the addition of Gothic Revival elements to the architecture.
