Château de Quart, Medieval castle on rocky slope in Quart, Italy.

Château de Quart is a medieval fortress located on a steep mountain slope near Aosta that consists of multiple fortified structures. These buildings follow the natural contours of the hillside and form a connected complex around a central courtyard.

The fortress was founded starting in 1185 by Jacques de la Porte de Saint-Ours, who established his residence here and created the noble lineage of the Lords of Quart. This family shaped the history of the place for generations to follow.

The ground floor displays curved arches decorated with painted scenes showing medieval crafts and daily work. These painted decorations give visitors a sense of how people lived and worked within these walls long ago.

Access is limited as the castle is normally closed and opens only on specific dates throughout the year. On these opening days, entry is free and provides a rare chance to explore the interior of this fortress.

A wrought iron fountain called del Melograno stands in the central courtyard and has long symbolized the past wealth of this noble household. The decorative fountain demonstrates how much value water and fine craftsmanship held for the residents here.
