Santa Maria Assunta

Santa Maria Assunta is a minor basilica featuring an octagonal floor plan with four chapels flanking the presbytery area and topped by a spherical dome clad in travertine. The interior space appears bright and well-ordered through its geometric design and contemporary construction materials.

The current basilica was constructed between 1953 and 1958, replacing an earlier neoclassical church designed by Luigi de Cambray Digny in 1833. This new building represented a modernization of the worship site in Montecatini.

The interior features stained glass windows by Giorgio Scalco and a central crucifix carved by Florentine sculptor Sauro Cavallini that shape the worship space. These artworks create a spiritual environment where locals and visitors experience sacred art daily.
